Board approves retirements, staff appointments and creates Early Childhood supervisor role

The Waterford Township Board of Education on Aug. 21 approved a broad personnel package that included retirements, substitute appointments, lateral moves, resignations, position changes and the creation of a new supervisory post in early childhood.
The personnel consent agenda, moved by Benjamin De Vuyst and seconded by Jason Galante, approved substitute paraprofessionals and non-instructional aides with listed hourly rates, several lateral moves and a number of new support-staff appointments for the 2024–25 year. The board accepted the retirement of Terri J. Tait, Curriculum Secretary, effective Jan. 1, 2025, and recorded appreciation for 31 years of service in the motion language.
The board approved several resignations effective on dates listed in the agenda (examples in the packet include Taylin Garvin, Jenna Harrold and others). It also authorized transfers and position changes for support and certified staff, including lateral moves for teachers and paraprofessionals with updated salary guide placements.
Notably, the board created a Supervisor of Early Childhood position (UPC 40-45-P2) and approved a certified-staff reassignment moving Michelle Biggs from a teacher role to Supervisor of Early Childhood with a listed salary of $96,500 and an annual workday total of 260 days for the supervisory role. The creation and the personnel changes were recorded in the board packet and approved as part of the personnel motion.
The board also approved the employment contract for Daniel J. Fox as Assistant Superintendent for Business for the 2024–25 school year and an agreement to mediate Sherri Stites v. Waterford Township School District. Approvals were by roll call with one abstention noted (Barbara Libak Fanz abstained from item 3).
