Reinbeck council approves Park Board Venmo, starts parking and fine code changes, and sets hearings

The Reinbeck City Council on Feb. 2 approved multiple administrative items intended to streamline local operations and set procedural hearings.

Council approved a request from Janelle Boldt to allow the Park Board to open a Venmo account at Lincoln Savings Bank with funds held separately from the city's main account and later transferred to the Gift & Trust Fund; Councilmember Bueghly moved for approval and the motion passed 5-0.

Councilmember Johnson moved to begin the process to amend Reinbeck City Code 69.11 to install a 20-minute parking sign at 423 Main Street to accommodate patient parking; the motion passed unanimously. Separately, Mayor Eiffler proposed increasing snow-violation parking fines to $50 and raising the penalty for nonpayment to $10; Wambold moved to start the amendment process for Code 70.03 and the council approved the motion.

The council voted to continue contracting with Precision Lawn Care for mowing and spraying in 2026 at existing rates after the company indicated it would not raise its price. The council also approved several appointments (Chris Bunz to the Cemetery Board; Steve Kauffman to the Memorial Building Board), accepted Darren Trunck's resignation from the Reinbeck Community Development Board, and appointed Lydia Robertson to that board.

Council set the property tax-levy hearing for April 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and scheduled a budget-amendment hearing for March 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. The city also set its spring clean-up day for April 18, 2026, with a rain date of April 25.

Mayor Eiffler reported that Finally Home has until the end of February to submit a plan for the property at 506 Broad Street; no action on that property was recorded at the meeting.
