Weehawken board approves multiple hires, coaching stipends and interim business administrator

At its Nov. 26 meeting the Weehawken Board of Education approved new salaried hires, hourly staff, additional positions and a large slate of coaching and extracurricular assignments, and named an interim business administrator; all motions passed by unanimous roll call.
The Weehawken Board of Education on Nov. 26 approved a range of staffing actions affecting counselors, therapists, coaches and hourly aides and appointed an interim business administrator.
The board voted, on a motion by Ms. Carson seconded by Mr. Pinal, to hire Tracy Villalpando as a school counselor at $64,463 effective Jan. 2, 2025, and to appoint Madeline Cheyne as speech therapist at $66,163 effective Dec. 1, 2024. The board also approved a behavior support specialist hire (Shane Hurley, $50,000) and a list of additional short-term and stipend-paid assignments for currently employed staff such as DLM coordinator and play assistance roles.
The board named Eulalia Gillis as Interim Business Administrator retroactive to Sept. 1, 2024, at a daily rate of $750 not to exceed three days per week. The motion to appoint Gillis was moved by Mr. Pinal, seconded by Ms. Carson and adopted by unanimous roll call.
Members approved a broad set of coaching and extracurricular appointments for the 2024-25 school year, noting stipends may be prorated or canceled if seasons are abbreviated. Notable stipends approved included head boys and girls basketball at $8,185 each (Floyd Morris and Zachary Licato), head wrestling at $7,440 (Razohnn Gross Jr.), and head swimming at $6,830 (Stephanie Farfan Ross). The board also approved assistant coaches and supervisors across winter sports and extracurricular programs.
The board approved new hourly and per-diem staff contingent on background checks and credentials, including a substitute teacher at $100 per diem and hourly aides at $15.50 per hour, and accepted a resignation (Sady Ross, bus aide, effective Oct. 28, 2024). It also granted leaves of absence for childbirth and for student teaching where requested.
All personnel and extracurricular motions were recorded as carried by roll call with seven ayes; two members (Mr. Acosta and Mr. Cannata) were listed as absent.
