At its Jan. 5 meeting, the Loris City Council unanimously approved the minutes from its Dec. 1, 2025 meeting, elected Councilman Carroll D. Padgett Jr. as mayor pro‑tempore and received the mayor's appointments to the council’s standing committees.
Mayor Michael E. Suggs explained that state law requires the council to appoint a mayor pro‑tempore following the certification of newly elected council members and that the pro‑tempore serves a two‑year term. Councilman Lewis C. Hardee Jr. moved to nominate Carroll D. Padgett Jr.; Councilwoman Tonya F. Sykes seconded the nomination and the motion passed with Mayor Suggs and all members voting in favor.
Mayor Suggs then appointed the standing committees required by city ordinance and provided printed committee lists to council members. The Loris Chamber of Commerce executive director was not present; two local news representatives attended but no members of the public signed up to speak. The meeting adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
