Waterford Township board adopts 2024–25 district goals, handbooks and curriculum guides

At its Aug. 21 meeting at Waterford Elementary School, the Waterford Township Board of Education approved the district’s goals for the 2024–25 school year and a set of staff and student handbooks, a school safety plan and revised curriculum guides.
The board adopted three formal goals described in the superintendent’s recommendation: D1 — implement the Into Reading program with fidelity to raise student achievement; D2 — evaluate and adjust the current RTI (response-to-intervention) model and implement evidence-based strategies to support at-risk students; and D3 — implement schoolwide systems for positive behavior supports and trauma-informed, healing-centered practices. The motion to approve the education package was made by Barbara Libak Fanz and seconded by Benjamin De Vuyst and carried by roll call vote.
Alongside the goals, the board approved the Student Code of Conduct, the School Safety and Security Plan and the Waterford Township Parent/Student Handbook for 2024–25. The board also approved the Waterford Township Staff Handbook, district mentoring and professional-development (PDP) plans, evaluation instruments for certificated and related-service staff, and the district’s Independent Educational Evaluation rates.
The board approved a set of curriculum guides for 2024–25 covering English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, visual and performing arts, world language, comprehensive health and physical education, technology/STEAM, counseling and gifted-and-talented programming. Documents mentioned in the motion were listed as available upon request in the meeting materials.
Implementation of the plans and curricula is expected during the upcoming academic year; the board did not specify additional funding in the meeting minutes for new instructional materials beyond the items already included in agenda attachments.
