Board affirms multiple HIB findings, accepts resignations and approves curriculum, preschool waiver and cooperative purchasing
Summary

The Weehawken Board of Education on April 29 accepted personnel changes, affirmed multiple Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) investigation findings for March 2025, and approved several policy and administrative items.
The board accepted the resignation of teacher Joseph Annese, effective April 4, 2025, and the retirements of paraprofessional Diane Nasti and secretary Kathleen Stahl, effective June 30, 2025. It also approved a range of additional hourly and summer assignments for currently employed staff, with listed hourly rates (examples in the minutes include $40 per hour for listed home-instruction and program roles and $19 per hour for certain summer positions).
On HIB matters, the minutes show the board affirmed the Superintendent’s investigative findings for incidents reported in March 2025: multiple findings coded as “#2” (the district’s notation for a finding that the accused student committed an act of HIB) at Weehawken High School (WHS), Daniel Webster School (DWS) and Theodore Roosevelt School (TRS) on the dates listed in the agenda. The board noted parents were informed of their right to request a hearing and that none requested a board hearing. The board then moved into executive caucus under the Sunshine Act to discuss personnel, collective bargaining and litigation; the closed session specifically listed HIB matters and student discipline as topics discussed.
The board also approved the district’s P–12 curriculum aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, authorized submission of a waiver for preschool classroom sizes to the New Jersey Department of Education, authorized participation in a list of purchasing consortia and state contracts for 2025–26, approved sick-day donations to a teacher’s sick bank, and adopted the Code of Ethics for School Board Members. A single non-resident tuition student (listed as MZY, grade 10) was approved for the 2024–25 school year. All of these administrative items were adopted by roll-call vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board returned from executive caucus at 7:29 p.m. and adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
