The Weehawken Board of Education on Oct. 15 unanimously approved a series of routine financial, contracting and personnel measures, including a one-time transfer of $1,038,000 in interest earned on school bond proceeds into the district general fund.
The motion to transfer interest and recognize it as revenue carried on a roll-call vote after the board cited NJAC provisions governing the use of bond proceeds. The same consent package included acceptance of $12,918 from the New Jersey High Impact Tutoring Reissue Competitive Grant (Grant No. 24E00815), and an 8% increase to that award.
Board members also approved contracts and service agreements meant to support special education and student services. The board awarded an audiological-services contract to Bergen County Special Services for up to 25 hours per week and approved an occupational, physical and speech-therapy contract with Deanna Jannicelli Corby, LLC for up to 18 hours per week. The board also approved a contract with MCL Consulting for coaching and training on applied behavior analysis techniques and engaged E-Rate Consulting, Inc. for the 2024–25 funding year under the NJSBA ACES cooperative agreement.
Personnel actions bundled into the consent agenda included multiple additional-role appointments and stipends for current staff (examples: high-impact tutoring instructors at $40/hour and extracurricular stipends such as WHS Piano Club and TRS Theater Club), new hourly/per diem hires (per-diem aide and substitute teachers), and the appointment of Ashley Graham as a special-education teacher (contracted salary $63,383, MA/Step 2) effective Oct. 16, 2024. The meeting minutes record that most motions were made by Board member Tarik Pinal and seconded by Mr. Ahmad; all recorded roll-call votes were unanimous among members present.
The board also approved an out-of-district student placement for one student (tuition and related services totaling $53,000) and authorized two hours of sign-language services through ASL Interpreter Referral Service, Inc. Professional-development reimbursements were approved for named staff, and the board authorized submission of the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan (M-1) and the New Jersey QSAC District Performance Review documents.

Why it matters: The transfer of accrued bond interest and the acceptance of targeted tutoring and special-services contracts direct revenue and resources toward general operations, instructional supports and services for students with special needs. Several approvals require follow-up by staff (contract execution, credential checks for hires, and grant implementation).
The motions were recorded in the formal minutes as passing by roll call; the board convened an executive caucus later in the evening and returned to public session before adjourning.
