Mr. Rarey presented drawings for cemetery improvements and trustees directed staff to proceed per the proposals; advertising dates for bids and specifications were set in March and May meetings. Trustees discussed using the National Cemetery Planning Service and consulting Columbus Memorial (Cols. Memorial) for uniform flush markers at no cost and considered plantings and a monument centerpiece to be erected in spring. A babyland statue proposal (Vermont marble) and pricing for corner lots were also recorded in the minutes.
The minutes further record a transfer of $5,000 to the cemetery fund approved by the board and specific small purchases and grading work to ready sites for bids and development. Trustees asked engineers and county officials to survey and report on road and right-of-way issues affecting cemetery access and related road-widening projects.
The record shows planning and procurement steps rather than final construction contracts in most entries: bids were to be advertised and trustees deferred some purchases until further cost information and vendor replies were obtained.
