Norwich trustees approve fire-department hires, gear purchases and begin contract talks with Brown Township

Minutes show trustees asked the clerk to prepare a new contract with Brown Township for fire protection and scheduled follow-up discussion (recorded in February). The fire department reported that a new squad vehicle was expected in March and trustees approved related purchases and a number of equipment items: a high-pressure washer (purchase approved), turnout gear (order placed at approximately $480 for volunteers), and a replacement recorder for the chief for $125.
Trustees also opened and approved an insurance bid from Hubbell Insurance for $2,922.00 at a July special meeting and signed applications that would place two full-time firefighters (Denzil Collier and Richard Ellwanger) on township rolls. The minutes record additional personnel actions including the trustees’ motion to terminate one regular firefighter's employment (Kermit Carl) effective Oct. 16, 1972, and routine approvals of leave requests and personnel screening.
The minutes emphasize procedural follow-up: trustees asked staff to obtain vendor cost figures for radios and to report back on trade-in values, instructed the clerk to prepare contracts, and scheduled trainings and testing dates for applicants.
