Norwich Township reorganizes for 1972; Workman chosen chairman, clerk staff adjusted

Durland Workman was elected chairman at the Norwich Township organizational meeting on Jan. 1, 1972 after a nomination by Webster Junk and a second by Richard Kuhn; the motion carried unanimously.
The minutes record that Theresa Montgomery was serving as the new township clerk and trustees thanked outgoing clerk Thelma Alder for her years of service. At the Jan. 10 meeting trustees authorized the clerk to purchase necessary office supplies and agreed to hire Thelma Alder as an assistant to the clerk at a rate recorded as $2.50 per hour.
The trustees approved the meeting schedule for the year and handled routine business including reading and approving prior minutes and bills. The body also reviewed financial reports for township accounts and directed the clerk to proceed with administrative follow-ups noted in the minutes.
The meetings were conducted in a procedural fashion with nominations, motions and roll-call votes recorded in the minutes. The trustees set forthcoming meeting dates and left implementation of the clerk’s purchasing authority to the new clerk and assistant.
