Mayor: MiEnergy to bury overhead lines; Legion-led veterans memorial, flag fundraiser noted

Mayor Nick Prestby reported at the June 8 meeting that he has spoken with a MiEnergy representative about a cooperative project to bury the city’s current overhead electric transmission lines and said work is expected to begin soon.
Prestby expressed appreciation to those who contributed to the Canton American Legion’s veterans memorial project and said the Memorial Day dedication event was well attended. He added that the Legion is placing roughly 150 flags around town for an Avenue of Flags fundraiser and that the Legion maintains the ball field used by the community.
The mayor said no citizens requested volunteer services for property-related improvements and reminded the council that property inspections are scheduled for Wednesday, June 15; he and Councilmember Josh Nordsving will conduct inspections this year. Prestby also noted that Aimee Gourlay of the League of Minnesota Cities will attend the July 13 council meeting to review recommendations for resolving previously identified conflicts.
No formal action was taken on the MiEnergy project at the meeting; the mayor’s report served as an informational update.
