Board adopts several policy updates, approves ThoughtExchange service and addresses meal, ticket and pension items

At its July 20 meeting the Sand Springs Board of Education approved a slate of policy updates and several operational items included on the consent agenda.
The board approved new and revised policies grouped as item 54, including a child-find policy, updates to the mental-health crisis protocol and extended-school-year eligibility standards required by law. Administration said the child-find policy would help ensure students who may qualify for special education are identified and that the mental-health protocol reflects recent best practices.
The board also approved using ThoughtExchange as a new survey tool (consent-agenda item 38/approved within consent), replacing more limited tools like SurveyMonkey; district staff said ThoughtExchange will collect richer qualitative feedback by prompting follow-up questions when respondents give negative input.
Other items discussed and approved on the consent agenda included a meal-price increase to keep meal programs solvent and meet federal recommendations; clarification of season-ticket pricing (a reserve seat price was confirmed as $65 per staff clarification during the meeting); and a restatement for the district's 403 supplemental retirement plan that removes spousal-consent language from the plan documents.
Administrators emphasized these changes are intended to improve compliance and community engagement while keeping recurring costs manageable. The board approved the consent agenda on a roll-call vote with members present voting aye.
Next steps: administration will implement policy changes, launch ThoughtExchange outreach at parent-teacher events and track meal-price impacts in upcoming budget reports.
