Teresa, a staff member, told the council the project seeks an ALDOT grant of about $185,547 and would require the city to contribute approximately $37,110 as a match. "They're going to look at adding in storm drainage down through there and just in general making it a pleasant experience to walk up and down the sidewalk," Teresa said.
Council members asked whether certain local gas-tax accounts could be used to cover the match. One participant noted the 'seven cent tax' account had only about $2,981 available and that some gas-tax funds "absolutely cannot be used for sidewalks." Teresa said the council would use that account if allowed and otherwise draw the remainder from the general fund.
A motion to adopt Resolution 24-025 was made by Scott and seconded by Elizabeth. The chair called for the vote and stated all were in favor; no opposed voices were recorded in the transcript, and the resolution was adopted.
The resolution authorizes the expenditure of municipal funds as part of the TAP grant application in coordination with ALDOT. Council members did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript; the meeting record shows a motion, a second, and the chair's announcement that the motion carried.
