The Weehawken Board of Education on March 10 approved submission of a preliminary 2025–26 budget to the Hudson County Interim Executive County Superintendent of Schools and set a General Fund tax levy of $27,810,935.
The figures the board authorized for advertisement were: General Fund $31,560,077; Special Revenue Fund $2,013,188; Debt Service $2,952,073; total $36,525,338. The minutes record adjustments to the base tax levy of $579,719 for increased health-care costs and $250,332 for enrollment.
The board also recorded that the General Fund budget includes a withdrawal from the Capital Reserve Account to fund Debt Service; the minutes list that withdrawal as "$5" and do not clarify the amount. The minutes further note the board established a maximum travel/reimbursement allotment of $30,000 for 2025–26, and that $9,362.23 had been spent in 2024–25 so far.
The motion to submit the preliminary budget was made by Ms. Carson and seconded by Mr. Pinal and passed by unanimous roll-call vote with Ms. Dennis absent. The action begins the local budget-advertisement process and referral to the county superintendent for approval.
