Council members used the open-floor portion of the Owens Cross Roads meeting to announce a new city mobile app and to set the municipal budget timeline.
A council member said the "City of Owens Cross Roads" app is live and available in app stores; the app can be used to pay sewer bills and court fines, register alarm systems and storm shelters, and receive push notifications about weather and sewer bill due dates. The same speaker reminded department liaisons and staff that it is time to begin preparing the budget so the council can adopt it in September for an October 1 effective date.
Police Chief [unnamed in the transcript] reported a recent series of burglaries that investigators solved with the help of citizen video, leading to arrests and recovery of firearms and some drugs. The chief said the evidence "allowed us to set up surveillance and we were able to catch them," and council members reiterated the presumption of innocence while thanking residents for the tips. Council members also recognized a graduating class (hazmat test pending) and urged recruitment for the volunteer fire department.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn.
