The Moody City Council on May 11 approved a package of budgeted purchases and travel requests for the fire department and city facilities and authorized furnishings for a new second-floor event room.
Chief Larry Horton reported several routine requests for the Moody Fire Department: authorization to send Lt. Almond to the EMS Expo in Orlando (Sept. 26–Oct. 2) not to exceed $1,485 (budgeted); service and air testing of the department breathing air compressor (Sunbelt Fire) for $863.36 (budgeted); purchase of four firefighting nozzles from EEP for $5,600 (budgeted); authorization for the Fire Chief and the Operations Captain to attend the AAFC Annual Leadership Conference (Aug. 1–6) not to exceed $2,450 (budgeted); and purchase of one Apple iPad Pro (Verizon) for $1,099.99 (budgeted). Each request was moved and seconded by council members and carried by unanimous vote.
Library Director Sara Roberts received approval to buy popsicles for the library’s Summer Kickoff on May 28, 2026 (vendor Frios Pops), not to exceed $600 from programming funds. Mike Staggs of the Civic Center won council approval to buy an indoor/outdoor sound system (Holt AV) not to exceed $7,500 from the capital budget and to purchase tables and chairs for a new 5,000-square-foot second-floor event room (vendors Sam’s Club and Amazon) not to exceed $12,000 from the Project Reserve fund.
Council votes were recorded as unanimous on these items except where minutes note otherwise for unrelated agenda items. Mayor Nick Rutledge moved to adjourn at 6:18 p.m.
The council recorded these approvals as budgeted expenditures under the line items cited in the meeting record and did not add new appropriations or amendments.
