Mayor told the council that potential new owners have visited the hospital site repeatedly over the past three weeks and that the sale process remains active but conditional on several approvals. He said the hospital is in receivership and that any sale must be approved by USDA, reviewed by the receiver and confirmed by a judge.
"Even if they get a deal, the deal has to be approved by USDA. Then it's got to go to the receiver because the hospital's in receivership... then the judge has to prove the sale," the Mayor said. He reported the city had signed nondisclosure agreements related to the hospital discussions with health-care authorities and that Glenn (the attorney working with the receiver) has been coordinating reviews.
The Mayor said he believes the process is making "very good progress" and that recommendations may come soon; he promised to share formal updates when approvals are received. The council did not take a formal vote related to the sale at the meeting.
