Board approves consent and budget items, curriculum and personnel motions in routine votes

At its regular meeting on Thursday the Watchung Borough Board of Education approved a series of routine consent and business items in roll-call votes.

Administrative consent items approved included approval of prior meeting minutes, acceptance of the superintendent's HIB report, approval of the professional development plan and mentoring plan, and approval of a revised 2024–25 school calendar. The transcript records two abstentions on item two (HIB confirmation) from board members who identified conflicts for that item; the overall administrative slate passed.

Personnel items — including hiring for before/after-care staff, approval of mentors and extracurricular positions, student-teaching placements, and appointment of non-certificated staff — were approved on roll call.

Operations and finance items passed and included payment of bills, fund transfers, financial reports, Chromebook financing, HVAC payment applications, toilet-room renovation payment applications for Bayberry Elementary, payment applications for educational alterations, parental transportation contracts and approval to place a temporary fence on Grant Field. The board also noted an extraordinary-aid revision and set timelines for the annual audit (week of Oct. 14).

The board adopted a revised curriculum package on roll call. Policy committee procedural votes included removing a blank first-reading item from the agenda and approving a policy on second reading.

The meeting closed after the board approved a resolution to file a complaint with the School Ethics Commission and heard one public comment.
