Orderville board approves purchase of text-message credits, sets hearing on meeting-time change and OKs business licenses

The Orderville town board approved several administrative items Feb. 5, including a communications purchase, a public-hearing date for amending meeting time, and several business licenses.

Communications: Staff recommended purchasing additional text-message credits because the town had used more than 8,000 of the yearly 10,000 allotment. The board voted to buy 100,000 messages for $750 to ensure continued resident alerts.

Meeting time: Councilmember Shanda (speaker 5) proposed moving regular meetings from Wednesday 7 p.m. to Monday 5:30 p.m. Because the meeting day/time is established in ordinance, the board agreed to set a formal public hearing at the March meeting to consider amending the ordinance; the board set that hearing date by motion.

Business licenses and minutes/bills: The board approved business licenses for KB Purchasing LLC (d/b/a Angel's Oasis and Lion's Keep), RSLB Enterprises LLC (Narrows Landing/Narrows Nest) and Homebuilding Solutions after staff reported fees and conditional-use permits were in order. The council also approved minutes from Jan. 7, 2026 and passed the bills presented for payment.

Executive-session release: Earlier in the meeting, the board voted to release the prior meeting's executive-session recording and documentation to the public after amending the motion to include both recording and documents.

Why it matters: These items affect how the town communicates with residents, the timing of governance meetings and the local business environment. The executive-session materials becoming public changes the town's public-record posture on a prior internal discussion.
