Izzo HVAC project to close commons and gym during school hours; superintendent's office moves to 512 building

The Iron Mountain Public Schools Finance Committee heard April 13 that the Izzo building HVAC upgrade will begin April 20, requiring temporary closures and an office relocation.
Superintendent Jerry Sardina told the committee most budget adjustments needed to start paying project bills have been completed and that the Izzo HVAC work will start April 20, according to an April 14 update. He said the second floor of Izzo, the commons and the gym will be closed during school hours; the weight room will remain accessible after 5 p.m. "Ms. Langsford will communicate these changes to IMPS families and the community," Sardina added.
The superintendent also said the Superintendent's Office will be temporarily moved to the 512 building beginning May 1 to accommodate the project. The committee discussed transfers from Building & Site to the General Fund to cover initial project payments.
The changes are operational: administrators will relocate, and certain spaces will be off-limits to students and staff during school hours for safety and construction staging. Parents and community members should expect direct communications about access, schedule changes and any temporary program relocations.
The Finance Committee did not take a formal vote on the project at the meeting; Sardina indicated budget transfers will be managed in upcoming accounting entries. District staff are expected to provide communications to families and further updates at the next committee meeting.
