Iron Mountain Finance Committee reviews HVAC costs, 27L educator grant and teacher-step adjustments

At a Jan. 12 meeting of the Iron Mountain Public Schools Finance Committee, trustees reviewed month-end financials and heard that the district is likely to begin using Zanardi funds to cover contractor bills for an impending HVAC project.
"There is nothing out of the ordinary to note this month," Superintendent Jerry Sardina said, adding that "the District will have to soon start dipping into the Zanardi monies as the HVAC project gets closer and bills from contractors start coming in." The committee recorded no other unusual expenditures for December and noted adjustments made in the prior month.
Committee members also received an update on the 27L grant for educator retention and recruitment. The committee was told the district has received the grant money but is "waiting to see exactly how this money can be used" as staff work to clarify confusing language in the grant guidance.
On staffing, Sardina reviewed offers made to new teachers for the second half of the school year and the salary steps at which they were hired. He said adjustments will be made to some teachers hired last year "to match" the current step schedule and that the language and schedule for those changes will be included in the next bargaining agreement this spring.
Procedural business included approval of the meeting agenda and minutes from the Dec. 8, 2025 meeting; both motions were moved by Trustee Lisa Carollo and seconded by President Shari Picucci-White. The meeting was called to order by Shari Picucci-White at 4:46 p.m. and adjourned at 5:11 p.m. Community comment was recorded as none.
No formal recommendations were forwarded to the full board at this meeting. Minutes were recorded by Executive Administrative Assistant Sarah Cavalieri.
