The Iron Mountain Board of Education unanimously approved hiring Matthew LaLonde as Assistant Community Schools Director on Feb. 9, 2026, contingent on a clear state and FBI criminal record check in accordance with Public Act 189.
The motion to accept the IM-K Community Schools Advisory Board's recommendation was made by Board Member James Carollo and supported by Board Member Jennifer Solka. The board recorded seven ayes, zero nays: J. Carollo, L. Carollo, DeRidder, Petschar, Picucci-White, Saldana and Solka.
Earlier in the meeting, the board also voted to accept the resignation of Education Assistant Chrissy Burcar, effective Feb. 27, 2026. That motion was made by Ben DeRidder and supported by Juan Saldana and passed by the same unanimous tally (7-0).
Both actions were taken as part of routine business at the district's regular meeting, which included approval of the meeting agenda and a consent agenda covering minutes and financial reports. The consent agenda and agenda approval were recorded without objection.
No additional details about LaLonde's start date beyond the advisory-board recommendation of June 2026 were provided in the meeting record, and the hire remains contingent on the background checks described at the meeting.
