The Beaufort County Council authorized a construction contract totaling $388,825 with Mashburn Construction to finish out upstairs suites at the Economic Development Building adjacent to the Local Assistance Center in Buckwalter.
Chris Forrester told the council the project was already budgeted and the quotes received from general contractors initially exceeded budget, so staff rebid the work. "We identified a contractor, Mashburn, who came within our budget," Forrester said. He gave a quote of $324,021 plus a 20% contingency for a total fiscal impact of $388,825 and said no additional budget was required.
During the workshop a council member moved to approve the contract and the motion was seconded; the presiding official called for ayes and the council voiced approval. Staff said lease documents for the suites will be brought to the main council meeting.
The motion was made during the workshop and carried by voice vote; no roll-call tally of individual yes/no votes was recorded in the workshop transcript. After the vote the chair asked whether anyone from the public wanted to speak; there were no public commenters and the council adjourned.
