Marboro County board honors students, athletes and coaches at March meeting

The Marboro County Board of Education used its March 3, 2025 meeting to recognize student and athletic achievements across the district, awarding individual honors and public commendations before convening an executive session.
Presenter-led recognitions began with Mai, a pre-K student at Bennville Primary, being named February’s primary student of the month for kindness, followed by secondary recognition for Andre Williams of Blenham Middle School of Discovery. The board also announced district spelling bee top finishers and said several winners represented the district at regionals held at Francis Marion University.
Sixteen students who achieved perfect scores on recent End-of-Course (EOC) exams were publicly acknowledged; the transcript records that each received a $100 check from Marboro County High School. Subjects listed for perfect scores included U.S. History, English II and Biology; specific students named included Adam Logan (perfect score), Amir Bridges (U.S. History) and Kalia York (Biology I).
District officers also recognized four students who placed at the South Carolina FBLA state conference and noted a city proclamation honoring FBLA spirit week. Athletic honors followed: middle school and high school boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from Blenham, Wallace, Mall and other schools were called forward, district champions were noted, and several student-athletes were recognized for all-region honors and college commitments, including Zakari Parnell’s commitment to St. Andrews University and Justin Pervis’s commitment to Newberry College.
Wrestling teams received special mention: the girls’ squad was recognized for its state dual appearance and an early-state victory, and the boys’ team’s state qualifiers and placings were read aloud. Coach Henry Adams received a public acknowledgement for 45 years of service to Marboro County schools, and Coach Zimmerman was named Region 3 53A Coach of the Year by conference coaches.
The board closed the public-recognition portion by inviting parents to take photographs and announcing a post-recognition pizza reception for students, coaches and parents. No policy votes or budget items were decided during this segment.
