Swedesboro-Woolwich board approves retirements, personnel moves and raises minimum wage to $15.49

The Swedesboro-Woolwich Board of Education on Jan. 15 approved a slate of personnel actions, certified monthly financial reports and accepted large payroll and bills payments as part of its regular business.
The board accepted retirements effective July 1, 2025 for teachers Lori Taylor, Maria McGinley and Deana Stone and approved multiple staff leaves, a resignation and several new hires and substitutes. Chair of the Personnel/Finance Committee Marie Barbara presented the personnel recommendations, which the board approved on a roll-call motion. The meeting minutes list a number of appointments pending completion of required state paperwork.
Board members certified the Board Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports under statutes cited in the meeting (18A:17-36 and 18A:17-9) and N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10, noting no line-item overexpenditures and sufficient funds to meet fiscal obligations for the remainder of the year.
The board approved payment of January 2025 regular and addendum bills totaling $1,394,085.90 and the December 2024 payroll of $1,560,644.02. The board also approved a December line-item transfer (amount listed as $2,2021.25 in the minutes) and a 52 sick-day payout to retiree Patrick Titus to be paid in January 2025.
Members voted to implement the New Jersey minimum wage increase to $15.49 per hour for district employees. That wage figure was recorded by the board as the new minimum hourly rate.
Board president Gina Azzari thanked retiring staff, saying she hoped "they enjoy their retirement." The meeting record shows motions carried by unanimous roll call where recorded (initial votes recorded as 7-0 or 8-0 depending on quorum). The minutes note one abstention on a motion to approve certain minutes.
