Tabernacle Township Board elects Col. Stephen Henske president at annual reorganization meeting

At its Jan. 7 reorganization meeting, the Tabernacle Township Board of Education unanimously elected Col. Stephen Henske as president and Lauren Fanti as vice president, adopted the NJ School Boards Association Code of Ethics, approved routine organizational motions and a middle-school field trip, and heard a public comment about testing.
Col. Stephen Henske was elected president of the Tabernacle Township Board of Education and assumed the chair at the district’s annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 7, 2025, held at the Kenneth R. Olson Middle School Media Center. The board also elected Lauren Fanti vice president and completed its routine organizational business, voting unanimously on appointments and procedural motions.
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m., called to order by School Business Administrator/Board Secretary Patricia Palmieri. The board recorded results from the Nov. 5, 2024 school election and administered oaths to the newly seated members. Roll call showed nine members present: Tracy Betts, Amy Lepsis, Greg Casterioto, Dr. Kevin McCloy, Lauren Fanti, Steven Mosser, Jonathan Grubb, Erica Vining and Col. Stephen Henske.
In nominations conducted early in the meeting, Dr. Kevin McCloy nominated Col. Henske for president; the board recorded a unanimous vote and Henske assumed the chair. For vice president, Mrs. Erica Vining nominated Lauren Fanti and Ms. Tracy Betts nominated Dr. McCloy; the board then recorded a vote on Mrs. Fanti, which the minutes document as unanimous, indicating Fanti was elected vice president.
The board adopted the New Jersey School Boards Association Code of Ethics as its official code and recorded unanimous approval. Members also approved the Central Record (when possible) and the Burlington County Times as the district’s official newspapers for meeting advertisements and legal notices; readopted all existing bylaws, policies and regulations; affirmed Fulton Bank/NJ ARM as the district depository; and approved the district curriculum as presented. Patricia Palmieri was designated as the district’s Public Agency Compliance Officer and Qualified Purchasing Agent for 2024–2025.
The board finalized committee assignments (Education/Technology; Human Resources; Operations; Policy), liaison roles for the HSA and Education Foundation, and representatives to Burlington County and Township bodies. The board approved a field trip for Olson Middle School student council officers to The College of New Jersey on Jan. 8, 2025.
Under new business, Mr. Banin provided an update about a slide installation. During public comment, Dr. Jones of 5 Horseshoe Court expressed concerns about an increase in testing and assessments. The meeting adjourned at 7:46 p.m.; minutes were signed by Patricia Palmieri, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary.
