Board OKs Marzano evaluation framework, Science of Reading presentation and bus lease

The Swedesboro-Woolwich Board of Education approved several curriculum and operations items at its Aug. 21 meeting. Natalie Baker, chair of Curriculum, presented approvals for curriculum handbooks (Gifted & Talented; RTI for staff and families) and the District Professional Development Plan for 2024–25.
The board adopted the Marzano Framework as both the teacher evaluation and administrator evaluation tool for 2024–25. The board also approved a Science of Reading presentation by Amplify (three presenters) for the Sept. 4 in-service at a cost of $7,500 and approved a science facilitator from Camden County College for $1,800 to present at the same in-service.
The board approved the sale of American Reading Company resources to the Elk Township School District for $8,000 and scheduled Title I, Part A parent meetings to coincide with Back-to-School Nights Sept. 9–12, 2024. The board also approved several 6th-grade fundraisers for the school year.
Under operations, the board approved facility usage requests including NJ Gators Softball at Harker Fields and accepted a bus leasing bid from Holcomb Transportation for $25,000 per bus (two buses; $50,000 total) for 2024–25. The primary reunification site was updated and the current site maintained as secondary.
The board recorded these actions by roll call and noted that several items are contingent on standard procurement, certification, or paperwork requirements.
