The Teaneck Board of Education on Jan. 22 approved a resolution authorizing initial planning steps for proposed school facilities projects and preserving the option to seek voter approval of a bond referendum.
The resolution authorizes the district architect to prepare schematic plans and educational specifications and directs their submission to the New Jersey Department of Education and the Bergen County Superintendent of Schools for review, if warranted. It also ratifies possible amendments to the district’s Long Range Facilities Plan and authorizes the Board President, the Superintendent and the Business Administrator/Board Secretary to execute project documents and cost estimates required for review and submission.
The board further authorized submission of applications seeking debt service aid and designated Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. as bond counsel to assist with actions necessary to preserve the opportunity to present the projects to voters via a bond referendum at a special or annual school election.
The resolution cites state administrative code sections relevant to school facilities planning (N.J.A.C. 6A:26‑2.3; 6A:26‑3.2; 6A:26‑5.1‑5.3) and instructs staff and counsel to take steps needed to retain referendum options while final scope and financing decisions are developed.
