Teaneck board approves HESAA data‑sharing agreement to verify FAFSA completion for graduating classes

The Teaneck Board of Education approved a data‑use and security agreement with the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) to allow HESAA to disclose limited FAFSA filing status information to the district. The action follows P.L.2023, c.295, which requires students in graduating classes 2025–2027 to file the FAFSA or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application or seek an exemption.
Under the agreement HESAA may provide limited data elements through the New Jersey Financial Aid Management System (NJFAMS) including student first/last name, date of birth, ZIP code, FAFSA submission date, Department processing date, a Selected for Verification flag, and an aggregated FAFSA completion status indicator (filed, incomplete, not submitted). HESAA is prohibited from disclosing Social Security numbers or financial data. The district must restrict access to Authorized Personnel and report security incidents promptly to HESAA.
