Teaneck Board approves $102.997 million tax levy, routine payments and several contract and budget actions

The Teaneck Board of Education approved a slate of finance and budget measures at its public work session on Sept. 11, 2024.
The board approved the local tax levy payment schedule for the 2024–25 school year totaling $102,996,705.00. It also approved claims and payments for July 2024 totaling $3,793,002.96 across general, capital outlay, special revenue, community education, food service and debt‑service funds. The board accepted the financial reports of the secretary and treasurer for the month ending June 2024 and authorized line‑item transfers in accordance with N.J. law.
The board approved out‑of‑district tuition contracts for special‑education placements for the 2024–25 school year totaling $392,965.00. The list of placements and contract start dates was appended to the board materials. The board also approved settlement payments related to student matters as presented on the agenda (see ‘Votes at a glance’).
On the administration side, the board approved the appointment of Irene Gray as Interim School Business Administrator and temporary purchasing agent, effective retroactive to July 18, 2024, and set the board’s maximum bid threshold for procurement at $44,000 as permitted by law. The board’s resolution authorizes Ms. Gray to solicit competitive quotations and to award contracts under the statutory provisions cited in the agenda materials.
Construction work on two middle‑school cafeteria HVAC projects drew cost adjustments. The board approved change‑order increases for Thomas Jefferson Middle School (total increase $36,601.02 for GC‑01 and GC‑02 to cover delivery delays and unforeseen field conditions) and Benjamin Franklin Middle School (GC‑01 increase $23,277.66).
The board also approved a mix of professional‑development reimbursements and contract amendments appearing on the agenda. A consulting/PD engagement with Corwin Press for an additional day of professional development was approved (not to exceed $7,500) with funding shown as Title II in the packet.
