The Swedesboro‑Woolwich Board of Education on March 12 approved a slate of personnel actions, stipends and the district’s monthly bills and payroll during a regular meeting at Gov. Charles Stratton School.
The board unanimously adopted the agenda and later approved personnel recommendations including the hiring of long‑term substitute Lisa Weber, new teacher Alyssa Green (pending state paperwork), several learning‑practitioner (LPC) hires and substitute positions, bus‑aide hires and multiple student clinical placements. The board also recorded resignations and several medical leaves and extensions. All personnel motions were presented by the Personnel & Finance Committee and approved on roll call 7‑0.
In financial business the Board Secretary certified the Treasurer’s and Board Secretary’s reports under 18A:17‑36 and 18A:17‑9 and N.J.A.C. 6A:23A‑16.10. The board approved March 2025 regular and addendum bills totaling $980,447.51 and February 2025 payroll of $1,544,323.73. A motion to approve the line‑item transfers for February 2025 in the amount of $0 also carried 7‑0.
The board approved stipends for Ready, Set, Grow kindergarten camps and coaching positions (examples: $38/hour for camp staff; $650 for an assistant volleyball coach) and authorized multiple professional workshops, including attendance at the ASCD & ISTE conference in San Antonio (costs listed, with some travel and fees paid from ESEA funds). The board discussed funding source timing and confirmed that the ASCD/ISTE registration and travel for one attendee would be paid from the current year’s ESEA funds.
Curriculum motions approved included contracting Stacey Stewart to perform DIAL testing for incoming kindergarten students (not to exceed 20 hours at $38/hour), authorization for First Lego League and other student groups to participate in county and township spring clean‑ups, approval of the district’s 2024–2027 Language Instructional Educational Program plan and a Grade 6 ABA student field trip on May 6, 2025.
Operations actions included approval of facility usage requests for youth sports and community groups (subject to insurance and 501(c)(3) documentation) and approval of removal of school property for the ECC building. During the operations report Board member Kenneth Riley asked about the district Maintenance Reserve target; the committee said no target has been set and that leftover funds will be rolled over.
The meeting’s consent motions and routine items were approved by roll call, typically 7‑0, and the board adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
What’s next: The board named delegates to NJSBA and GCSBA, and the next scheduled meeting is April 30, 2025. No policy adoptions requiring additional action were recorded at this meeting.
