Merrimac Board of Health to send violation notices over animal‑keeping nonresponse; 43 permits signed

The Town of Merrimac Board of Health authorized staff on Jan. 14 to send third notices — a notice of violation and an order to comply — to residents who have not responded to prior BOH and Animal Control Office outreach on keeping of animals.
"I move to send a notice of violation and an order to comply, to residents who have failed to respond to BOH and ACO," Chairperson Christine Berube said; the motion was seconded by Member Ashlyn Calcagni and approved 3-0. Health Agent Deborah A. Ketchen and Administrative Assistant L. Milchirt were directed to draft the letter and forward it to Chairperson Berube for review.
Separately, board members signed 43 permits during the meeting. The board agreed to continue monitoring local convenience store displays and tabled discussion of dumpster permitting until Member Calcagni completes her research. The Board's next meeting is March 3, 2025.
