Board approves $375,000 school‑based mental health grant, tutoring and other funding updates

On Sept. 17 the Board accepted an 8% increase to the High Impact Tutoring Grant, approved submission of a $375,000 School-Based Mental Health Grant for 2024–25, accepted a $3,000 Whole Kids Garden grant and recorded updated NJDOE nonpublic aid allocations for St. Michael’s School and United Academy of Union.
On Sept. 17 the Township of Union Board of Education approved several grant and funding items recommended by the Superintendent.
The Board accepted an eight percent increase to the district’s High Impact Tutoring Grant with the grant to be fully spent by June 30, 2025, and approved submission of the School-Based Mental Health Grant Year 3 application for $375,000 for the 2024–25 school year. The Board also approved acceptance of a Whole Kids Garden grant of $3,000 for Livingston Elementary.
Financial updates from the New Jersey Department of Education were recorded in the minutes: updated Nonpublic School Nursing Aid, Nonpublic Security Aid, Nonpublic Technology Aid and Nonpublic Textbook Aid were listed for St. Michael’s School and United Academy of Union with totals included in the appended minutes. During discussion a public commenter asked where United Academy is located and how many students it serves; Board counsel said related lease negotiations and records are subject to attorney/client privilege and an OPRA request was referenced.
All Education and Fiscal committee items were approved by roll call votes during the meeting.
