Board member Mary Lynn Williams to step down Sept. 20 after eight years of service

Mary Lynn Williams told the Township of Union Board of Education on Sept. 17 that she will step down from the Board effective Sept. 20, 2024. Board President Chastity Santana read a letter notifying the Board of Williams’ decision and members offered public thanks.
Several Board members praised Williams for her service. Mrs. Scott-Hayden thanked her for mentorship and said she appreciated Williams’ guidance; Mr. Cohan praised her leadership and mentorship; Mr. McDowell thanked Williams for her work “for our children.” In her remarks, Williams said, “The last eight years have been amazing for both me and the district.”
The Board completed its scheduled business after the announcement, including approval of minutes, routine fiscal reports and committee resolutions. The Board did not announce at the meeting when or how it will fill the vacancy; public commenters asked that any appointment or interview process be publicly advertised and that the public be able to attend candidate interviews.
