Union school board approves $1.11 million lease-purchase for boilers, approves PD and routine fiscal items
Summary
The Township of Union Board of Education approved a $1,110,000 lease-purchase loan to replace three school boilers, approved professional development spending of $2,500 from Title II funds, and approved districtwide field trips and bond counsel services; routine operations items, including a request to use Jefferson School parking for a Trunk or Treat event, were also addressed.
At its Oct. 8 worksession the Township of Union Board of Education approved several fiscal and operations resolutions, including a lease-purchase loan for replacement boilers and professional development funding.
Fiscal motions moved by Ms. Dicxiana Carbonell and seconded by Mrs. Kimberly Scott-Hayden included:
• F-16: Approve a lease-purchase loan from Webster Bank Leasing & Financing, Inc. in the amount of $1,110,000 to fund equipment leases for three boilers serving Burnet Middle School, Livingston Elementary School and Washington Elementary School; the loan term is five years and was presented as a replacement for boilers that were "not functioning efficiently." The motion carried with all members voting AYE (Carbonell, Cohan, Conteh-Mackey, Minneci, Nasta, Scott-Hayden, Santana).
• F-7: Approve districtwide student field trip destinations and purposes pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-5.8 (information appended to the minutes).
• F-17: Approve agreement with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer for bond counsel services for district projects.
Education/operations votes included:
• E-7: Approve Lo Logramos Consulting LLC to coordinate two workshops on Oct. 14, 2024 titled "Unlocking Proficiency through WL NJSLS" at a cost of $2,500 to be paid from Title II funds. The motion was moved by Mr. Michael Cohan, seconded by Mrs. Nancy Minneci, and carried unanimously.
• O-1: Approve security drill and bus evacuation reports pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:41-1 and P.L. 2009, Chapter 178.
The Board discussed a request from the Township Recreation Department to use the Jefferson School parking lot on Oct. 19, 2024 for a Trunk or Treat event (O-2) and agreed to move O-3 (UHSPTA junior bonfire) to the Oct. 15 regular meeting for vote because of outstanding safety and insurance concerns. Counsel advised that PTA events should carry their own insurance.
All motions in the fiscal packet reported on Oct. 8 passed; the transcript records unanimous AYE votes for the fiscal items listed above.
