Carmel-by-the-Sea officials announced on Thursday that the Park Branch Library will open Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., beginning next Saturday. The chair of the meeting said the schedule is the result of months of planning with library staff.
The chair said the branch has been closed on weekends since the COVID-19 pandemic and described the new hours as “a pretty big accomplishment” after five years. The chair thanked Library Director Heather Cousin and temporary library assistants for working to develop a schedule that serves the majority of staff and patrons.
Officials said the Saturday schedule will be tested and adjusted if necessary. No additional funding or staffing changes were announced beyond the temporary staff schedule adjustments referenced in the meeting.
City staff also reminded residents that agendas for upcoming council meetings are posted on the city website and encouraged the public to check the posted schedule for items of interest. The meeting closed with reminders about holiday closures and public-safety staffing over the July 4 weekend.
