Ithaca council approves 2025–26 budget amendments, sets public hearing for 2026–27 budget

The City of Ithaca City Council on April 21 approved amendments to the 2025–26 fiscal year budget and set a public hearing for the 2026–27 fiscal year budget.
City Treasurer Luke Klifman presented the proposed amendments and the council, on a motion by Councilperson Clark Hubbard and a second from Councilperson Rob Endter, approved the changes as presented. The council then set a public hearing on the 2026–27 budget for June 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at city hall after a motion to schedule the hearing (moved by Hubbard, seconded by Brooke Vernon) carried. Mayor Brett Baublitz also scheduled a Committee of the Whole meeting for May 19 immediately after the regular meeting for council review of the introduced budget.
The consent agenda, which included the City Manager’s written report (updates on Planning Commission activity, Treasury Department matters, MML training planning, the Union Street project, vendor Bedzinsky & Co., server issues, construction bids, lagoon matters, and a local state of emergency) and claims recommended for payment, was approved by roll call vote earlier in the meeting; all seven councilmembers voted aye on that item.
No dollar amounts for the 2025–26 amendments or for the 2026–27 proposed budget were specified in the minutes. The council directed that the Committee of the Whole meet to review the introduced budget before further action. The public hearing is set for June 2; additional budget details are expected in that hearing record.
The council moved to adjourn at 6:14 p.m.
