Windsor Locks board allocates $14,000 toward senior-center bus, sends matter to Town Meeting

First Selectman Jon Savino said the bus purchase will be funded primarily through a Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) grant. The total cost identified in the minutes is $142,271; CT DOT will pay 80% and the town is responsible for the remaining 20% (about $28,454). At the meeting the board approved allocating $14,000 now from unallocated capital and forwarded the balance and final approval to the Town Meeting.
Senior Center Director Ann Marie Claffey asked for clarification of the Town Meeting date during the public-input portion. Peggy Sayers addressed the board in support of a new bus and described reasons the Senior Center needs a replacement vehicle. The board carried the motion to forward the allocation and schedule the Town Meeting; Selectman Mark Whitten seconded the motion.
Why it matters: the new bus will replace an older vehicle purchased in 2014 and is meant to support services for older residents who rely on Senior Center transportation. The board approved partial town funding now and will seek Town Meeting approval for the remainder and the purchase itself.
