Jenison official credits AEDs and quick response after marching-band medical emergency

At the Oct. 13 board meeting Superintendent Dr. Brandon Graham described a medical emergency that occurred Oct. 3 during a marching-band performance. He told the Board that students and staff responded calmly, administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED), and that the individual survived.
Graham said the district intentionally places multiple AEDs in stadium areas and that athletic trainers and building office staff are trained to use them. He praised the immediate response during the incident and commended those who assisted.
The report to the Board followed other Homecoming-week updates: a parade that included elementary students, a high-school assembly and a fieldhouse dance attended by more than 1,000 students.
