Jenison board approves ongoing summer-tax collection agreement with Georgetown Township

The board voted 7-0 to renew an ongoing resolution requesting that Georgetown Township collect 100% of the district's summer property-tax levy for 2026 under MCL 380.1613 and to allow staff to negotiate reasonable collection expenses.
At its Oct. 13 meeting the Jenison Public Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution asking Georgetown Township to collect the district's summer tax levy for 2026 and to continue that arrangement on an ongoing basis until specifically revoked.
Christine Marcy explained the resolution invokes provisions of the Revised School Code (MCL 380.1613) and authorizes the superintendent, the director of finance and operations, or a designee to forward the resolution and request to Georgetown Township so that it is received by the township governing body on or before Dec. 31, 2025. The resolution specifies that Georgetown Township would collect 100% of annual school property taxes, including debt service, on property within the district located in Georgetown Township.
The motion was made by William Waalkes and seconded by Dr. Chris Reed; the board approved the resolution by roll call vote 7-0.
The resolution authorizes district staff to negotiate reasonable collection expenses that the township may bill under the Revised School Code; any proposed agreement for collection expenses must be brought to the board for approval or disapproval.
