Staff recommends Santori's for village fireworks; parks fee schedule to increase

At the Dec. 9 work session Dean DeWaston, representing recreation staff, told trustees the village issued an RFP for the annual fireworks display to seven vendors and received two bids: Santori's World Famous Fireworks at $25,000 and Zambelli Fireworks at a higher price. "Santori's came in at the same price last year at 25,000," DeWaston said, and staff recommended Santori's based on price and a long working relationship.
DeWaston said Santori's has been used for about a decade without operational issues and that Zambelli's bid appeared to be more technologically advanced but more expensive. He asked trustees to authorize the village manager to sign the contract once the manager approves and noted that funding will be handled later in the budget process: "You're not approving the funding, you're approving the contract, and then you would subsequently have to approve the funding during the budget process as a line item," DeWaston said.
Trustees also reviewed a proposed Parks & Recreation fee schedule needed to finalize marketing for spring and summer programs. Staff said the schedule follows recent practice (approximately 5% resident increases and 10% nonresident increases) and that the Parks and Recreation Commission approved the schedule at its Dec. 4 meeting. Trustees scheduled the contract authorization and fee-schedule approval for the January meetings.
No final contract award or budget appropriation was made at the work session; trustees directed staff to place the contract authorization and the fee schedule on the Jan. 13 (work) and regular meeting agendas as appropriate.
