Ithaca manager: job ads posted for police chief and public works roles; city testing utility-mapping software

City Manager Jamey Conn reported on staffing and technical updates at the City of Ithaca’s Feb. 3, 2026 council meeting. Conn said the city has published advertisements for a Police Chief position and for Department of Public Works full-time and seasonal positions, and that hiring efforts are underway.
Conn also listed administrative items included in his written report, including contracting and equipment items and local recognitions by the Gratiot County Chamber. He told the council that staff are evaluating options for a GIS (geographic information system) product to improve utility mapping and infrastructure records; Water & Sewer Superintendent Waldron and DPW Superintendent Smith participated in a virtual demonstration and the city plans to test additional vendors and configurations.
The manager did not provide a timetable for hiring or implementation of the GIS software. The staffing advertisements and further details on procurement will be handled through the city’s normal human-resources and purchasing processes as they move forward.
