South Plainfield swears in new police officer Brendan T. Hayden

The South Plainfield Mayor and Council approved Resolution 25-351A and swore in Brendan Thomas Hayden as a police officer during Monday’s meeting.
Clerk Amy administered the oath and Hayden, who grew up in South Plainfield, addressed the council. According to the biographical summary read at the meeting, Hayden graduated from South Plainfield High School in 2019, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the College of New Jersey in May 2023, and is enrolled in an alternate-route police training program with a scheduled basic-training graduation on Nov. 21. Council members also noted his service in the Army National Guard, including a deployment earlier this year.
Hayden told the council, “It’s really a privilege and honor for this position,” and thanked mentors, teachers and the community. Council members offered congratulations and welcomed him to the department. The resolution to hire and swear in Hayden passed by recorded roll-call vote during the meeting.
