Council approves routine ordinances, donates to fire department and proclaims Constitution Week

The South Plainfield Borough Council moved through a packed agenda, approving multiple ordinances and resolutions, recognizing volunteers and accepting community donations.
During presentations the Public Celebrations Committee presented $3,175 from Labor Day proceeds to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department. Council members and residents honored longtime volunteer and parade announcer Bill Cochran for decades of service.
The council read and adopted proclamations designating Sept. 8–12 as Disability Voting Rights Week and Sept. 17–23 as Constitution Week. Representatives from local organizations accepted the Constitution Week proclamation.
On routine business the council approved several ordinances by roll call: Ordinance 2367 (a $1.25 million appropriation to begin property revaluation), Ordinance 2368 (capital funding for road improvements including Tyler Place and engineering for additional streets), and Ordinance 2369 (amendments to compensation for non‑union professionals and governing body pay through 2028). Ordinances 2370 (Monument Park improvements) and 2371 (low‑speed electric vehicle code amendment) were introduced for first reading and set for second hearing on Oct. 6.
After executive session the council voted to add Resolution 25‑326, authorizing a prevailing‑weight sewer connection rate for 2007 for Block 204 Lot 2; the added resolution was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
