The Borough of South Plainfield adopted Ordinance 2370 on final reading to authorize capital improvements at Monument Park, including resurfacing walking paths, new pavers and monuments, at a cost of $45,000.
The measure, which council moved and seconded during the meeting, passed by roll call with six votes in favor and none opposed. Council members recorded appreciation for Department of Public Works staff and acknowledged additional donations from local veterans organizations — including the Elks, the American Legion/the Sons of the Legion and the VFW — toward a battlefield-style cross monument that will be placed in the park.
The ordinance authorizes the borough to proceed with the listed park work and associated spending. The council opened and closed the public portion with no comments on this ordinance before voting.
The council also linked the ordinance to Resolution 25‑334, which officials said relates to project funding and coordination with donor groups. Work is expected to be scheduled through the borough public-works program; no contractor or start date was specified during the meeting.
The council adjourned to other agenda business after the vote.
