Great Falls council approves $12,500 emergency repair for collapsed sewer beneath police department

At a called meeting on Aug. 28, the Great Falls Town Council declared an emergency at the Police Department and unanimously approved a $12,500 estimate from Parker Plumbing Solutions LLC to repair a collapsed terra cotta sewer pipe beneath the building.
The emergency declaration allowed the council to consider a single-source repair. Council Member Dutton moved to approve the estimate; Council Member Craig seconded. The motion passed unanimously with Mayor Brantley and Council Members Craig, Dutton, Gonzalez and McManus voting yes; Council Members Worthy and Eagle were absent.
Chief Martin, speaking about the condition of the building, said, "The biggest issue is the sewer line," and cautioned that interior repairs will likely be required after crews excavate the line because floors will be torn up and pipes may run under walls. Mayor Brantley said the town will revisit additional repairs as needed and that staff would "check into getting moisture readings and cleaning up and replacing areas with mold." The council noted the expense was non-budgeted.
There were no further items of business; Mayor Brantley moved to adjourn and the council closed the meeting.
