The reinstatement followed a closed executive session earlier in the meeting; Mayor Brantley stated publicly that no action was taken during that executive session. After the reinstatement vote, Council Member Dutton asked Mr. Gladden whether he accepted the position. A member of the public, Cookie Washington, asked whether Mr. Gladden would receive backpay.
Council Member Dutton then moved to grant backpay to Glenn Gladden; Council Member Gonzalez seconded. That motion also passed 4-1, with the same vote split. The meeting record authorizes backpay but does not list a dollar amount.
