Great Falls approves Lexipol contract, hires new officer and begins camera pilot

The Great Falls Town Council approved a policy and training service contract with Lexipol for $4,460.25 to be paid from ARPA funds at its July 16 meeting.
Chief Martin provided a detailed police report: 20 incident reports, 134 calls for service, 41 traffic stops, 26 warrants, 15 citations, one felony arrest, one misdemeanor arrest and two drug arrests, plus several ongoing investigations. He announced the department has hired officer Chris Poncia, who will attend the academy; Officer Woods, hired six weeks earlier, will learn his academy start date shortly. He said the town has received SLED approval for three constables ranked as Class 1 officers to serve at no cost to the town until Jan. 1, 2025.
Chief Martin reported ARPA-funded vehicle equipment has been installed and most body and car cameras are operational aside from one vehicle. Flock cameras remain pending letters, and Great Falls was selected for a 30-day pilot of an LBT mobile camera trailer expected to arrive before Torrey Craig Day. The chief said Lexipol approval will assist accreditation efforts.
