Residents oppose twice-weekly trash pickup as council weighs $70,000 estimate

Residents and council members debated the prospect of adding a second weekly trash pickup at the July 16 Great Falls Town Council meeting.
Public comment speakers Jody Knight and Danny Lawson both opposed a new trash day. Knight said residents "should have a say" and criticized certain council conduct; Lawson cited neighboring towns' once-weekly service and said the primary problem is trash on roadsides rather than pickup frequency. Both urged voluntary cleanup rather than recurring municipal expense.
Public Works Supervisor Marlow estimated adding a second weekly pickup would cost approximately $70,000. Council Member Gonzalez asked whether that figure was in addition to current costs; Mayor Brantley and Council Member Dutton discussed how often pickup had been twice weekly in the past and expressed differing views on whether more frequent service would reduce the amount of trash per pickup.
No formal motion to change service frequency passed at the meeting. Council discussion included whether roll-off containers were necessary given access to the county trash center and whether increased pickups would be sustainable in the town budget.
