Dr. Paula Taylor presented an update on the district’s five‑year strategic plan and individual school renewal plans, describing measurable targets and current results across student performance, graduation and staff development.
Taylor said the district set a goal that by 2028, 70 percent of K–2 students will be at or above the 41st percentile on MAP assessments (the 41st percentile was chosen as a predictor for SC Ready). She said the district is also targeting 75 percent of students in grades three through eight to score at level three or above on SC Ready by 2028 and is adopting a new math curriculum and additional professional development to address persistent math gaps.
On college‑and‑career readiness (CCR), Taylor reported the prior graduating cohort’s CCR measure was about 64.6 percent and noted the district wants to increase that share through expanded dual‑enrollment options, test‑prep supports and connected CTE pathways. The board heard that the current graduating class counts 73–74 seniors and that graduation-rate goals are set at 90 percent by 2028; the district’s most recent actual graduation rate reported to the board was 79 percent for the last completed year.
Taylor highlighted teacher quality measures, explaining that each teacher writes a student‑learning objective (SLO) and that last year 100 percent of SLOs were rated proficient. She also acknowledged teacher return rates remain an area for improvement and that staffing stability is central to sustained student progress.
Board members thanked Taylor and school leaders for the data and for setting measurable targets. Taylor said the district will continue to monitor MAP and I‑Ready data and adjust interventions and supports.
